Citybox Bergen Danmarksplass

This is very much a self-service hotel, and that works well. The location is super convenient, with a tram stop around the corner that gets you into the center in 15 minutes. Parking is available nearby, but costs about 25 EUR a day. The rooms are tidy and have what you need, though they're a bit small, so keep that in mind if bad weather means spending time indoors.

It's basic, but the room has everything you need. There's no TV, which maybe isn't much of a loss since there are no UK channels in Norway. The hotel is a little way from Central Bergen, but once you get the hang of the tram system it's fine. The nearest stop is about five minutes away.

The top floor was quiet, and the hotel is close to town. My room was clean and had wifi, though some of the lights were burnt out. I've noticed that at a number of hotels on this trip. The place is very basic, economy accommodation. Citybox didn't honor the member early check-in benefit, even though I arrived only 30 minutes before regular check-in. It seems automated, since the front desk staff couldn't override it.

The rooms are really nice, and it's easy to get to Bergen centre by public transport. Check-in is at a lobby terminal and very straightforward, with staff nearby if you get stuck. I also made good use of the secure bag drop before check-in and after check-out, which gave me more time to explore. Handy extras include power banks to rent while you're out and umbrellas to rent too. There's a small kitchen for preparing your own food, though it's quite simple: kettle, microwave, coffee machine, bins, wooden cutlery, and paper cups and plates. Breakfast wasn't brilliant for vegetarians or vegans, but I'm still glad it was available. As a guest, you get a nice level of independence.
