We loved the warm, welcoming feel at Heimen Hotel, and felt safe throughout our stay. Its simple Scandinavian décor suited us, and our room had enough space, a very comfortable bed, tongue-and-groove panelling, and even a harbour view. Breakfast was spectacular, with fish, meat, cheese, hot and cold choices, and healthy ginger shots. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The location by Bergen port made it easy to walk to Bryggen, the Christmas Market, the funicular, shopping streets, restaurants, and the light rail. I don’t really understand the bad reviews. Some people seem to expect a five-star resort from a friendly, family-run three-star hotel. I’m glad I trusted my gut and kept our booking when I was close to cancelling because of those comments. We’ll definitely return to Heimen Hotel on our next Bergen visit.

Not sure why this hotel has low scores, we thought it was lovely. It was affordable, very clean, quiet, and comfortable, with a great breakfast buffet included. Our family room worked well for two adults and two kids. My kids said, “The bacon was delicious. The blinds were really great, blackout shades. We slept very, very, very well!”

The breakfast alone was a treat, with loads of choices, smoothies, and ginger and spinach shots. Our room was roomy and spotless, and the shower left our skin and hair softer than they’d been in ages. The bathroom had a lovely Scandinavian feel. This was Bergen’s first hotel, recently renovated, and it worked perfectly for our stay. I enjoyed the whole experience, thank you!

The only thing that made sleeping less comfortable was the double bed, which turned out to be two single beds pushed together. The rest of the stay was great: clean, comfortable rooms, a well-kept hotel, and friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast had plenty of choice and was very good. I’d happily come back.

The room felt a little tired, though that may be down to local prices. The hotel is right in the centre and near the harbour, and the service was great. Breakfast was spot on too.
