Quality Hotel Edvard Grieg

Our two-room suite had a nice large bathroom and a TV that could swivel to face either room. The breakfast buffet was large and good, and the hotel is handy for catching the train into the city. It’s a big place that seems geared toward tour groups and business travelers. We did report a maintenance problem on our first day, but it still hadn’t been fixed when we left two days later.

The breakfast was very nice, with plenty of bacon, and the shower had good pressure. Room 228 was clean, with great lighting for shaving and in general, plus an iron and ironing board. The employees were very nice. I was there for a one-night hotel conference and got a classic-hotel feeling, although some of the walkways looked older. Two things bothered me: I was always waiting for cappuccino, and there was no shoe spoon in the room.

My planned few days in Bergen, where I was wrapping up a six-month deployment, turned into a two-week stay. I was surprised by how fluent Norwegians are in English, since I speak English and Italian. The staff had the best attitudes of any hotel team I’ve come across in Europe and made sure I was looked after.

The hotel is close to the airport, parking was easy, the rooms are spacious, and the breakfast had lots of choices. It was the biggest buffet we had in Norway. Still, compared with other boutique hotels, it lacked some charm and coziness. I’m updating this because we’ve now received a parking fee ticket. We paid for parking with the room, but a license plate camera still recorded us as unpaid. I had to pick someone up at the airport late, so I assume there’s no in-and-out privilege. A really bad experience.
