Scandic Torget Bergen

The bed was comfortable, but it squeaked whenever I sat down or moved. The room also let in a lot of sound, and a water pipe or something nearby woke me whenever someone upstairs flushed. The outer window pane was cracked. I know the window has several layers, but I felt some cold air coming through when the curtains were open. I didn’t book breakfast, so I can’t comment on it. Getting the room cleaned during our four-night stay was a hassle. You have to sign up by QR code or at reception. I understand the idea, but it didn’t work well: we signed up once and still got no cleaning. After I complained, staff said it would be done the next day, but it wasn’t. I had to collect fresh towels from reception twice, and nobody apologized. That’s not the service I expect from Scandic. I also dislike hotel companies cutting back on housekeeping and calling it eco-friendly while charging the same price. If climate were the real reason, they could offer a discount or another incentive to guests who skip cleaning. I don’t usually write negative reviews, but this was the first time a Scandic hotel really disappointed me.

The bed, pillows and duvet could be better. I didn’t sleep well either night at Scandic Torget, and I’d have liked more pastry and meat choices at breakfast. Even so, Scandic Torget matched what I usually count on from the brand: good service, plentiful and pleasant breakfasts, and great locations. Scandic is the chain I choose whenever I visit Scandinavian countries, and it’ll remain my first choice.

Step outside in the morning and you’re right among the boats, the fish market and so much of what’s happening in Bergen. The city really opens up from here. It’s a great downtown location, and the breakfast was great. The front desk staff were helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.

The room was roomy, the location was perfect, and breakfast was easily the best I’ve had at a hotel. The staff were wonderfully kind and understanding, too. Really delicious food. I couldn’t recommend this place more.
