We had our family reunion at Saltstraumen Hotel from June 27th to the 29th, with more than 70 of us. The staff were so welcoming, and the buffet they put together was lovely. The food was amazing, with a typically Norwegian feel, and I loved it. Breakfast was another highlight, with a wonderful buffet and so many choices. Our room was nice and just what I expected. Several relatives stayed in the cabins and liked them too. It was an easy walk to the Saltstraumen bridge and across it. The seagulls were nesting, and from an island below the bridge we could see their little chicks and hear them calling. We’ll make time to stay at this hotel on our next trip to the area.

The bed was good, and the surroundings have charm, but the hotel feels dated and a bit low tier. The restaurant and breakfast didn’t impress me, though both were passable. The conference room has a low ceiling and isn’t ideal for a larger group. The equipment is below par too, especially the projector, which just isn’t up to the task.

The grounds were well kept, and the bungalow/cabin was comfortable, well equipped, and roomy enough for four. It’s in an excellent spot near trails where you can observe the Saltstraumen maelstrom. We ate at the on-site restaurant and had a very tasty dinner, followed by an excellent Norway-style breakfast buffet with lots of options. We didn’t have time to try the spa services or other amenities, but would like to come back and do that on a future stay.
