Revsnes Hotell

The setting in this magnificent, unspoiled natural landscape is lovely, but the service was poor, the staff below par and the food mediocre. You and your family deserve better, so choose another hotel.

We’ve stayed here three times, at the start and end of our expedition, on the recommendation of our Fixer Mr Desmond. It’s a great base for our trips, about an hour from the airport. The staff are friendly and very accommodating, the rooms are clean, the beds comfortable, and the showers hot with strong water pressure. The food is off the scale, and the buffets are gorgeous.

The bed was a bit uncomfortable for me and squeaky, though I’m still looking forward to coming back next year. Setesdal doesn’t have many hotels, and Revsnes Hotell really stands out for its stunning location. The weather was terrific and sunny during my visit. The old, stylish decor gives the place a cosy, authentic feel, like stepping back in time. My room had a lovely view of the water and mountain. The bathroom was just as dated as the rest of the hotel, but everything worked and hot water came quickly. Because of the pandemic, the beds weren’t made daily, though the room was otherwise kept nicely. There’s a range of activities, including canoes for heading out on the water. The restaurant’s selection was limited at breakfast, lunch and dinner, but the food was tasty. The staff were super friendly and accommodating.

I tried the breakfast buffet one morning, then stopped by the bar another evening to watch the World Cup. The food was delicious and the service was excellent throughout. Revsnes has gorgeous views and an old, classy look.
