The park was nearly empty when we visited in May, and we spent our time at the mineral exhibition. It’s surely world class, displayed in an imaginative way through underground tunnels. The shop has a huge selection of minerals at prices that compare very well with the UK, and the whole thing felt like a unique experience. Our cruise coach trip from Kristiansand took a good hour or more because of several roadworks, but the countryside along the way was superb.
There’s loads for kids to enjoy here, and we’ll be back. They can explore minerals from around the world, follow the quiz map, and collect a reward. You can also swim, tackle the inflatable floating obstacle course, borrow a canoe, SUP board, or kayak to explore the lake and its little islands, or try climbing and ziplining over the water in the adventure park. Highly recommended for a fun day out.
The staff really made this place for me. They’re kind and helpful, and handled a system crash yesterday with a 30-plus-minute wait for food and drinks calmly. They even gave people an extra drink to make up for it. The park itself gets 3/5 from me: it’s fairly small, with the water area and mineral museum as the main draws, plus a few playgrounds. Drinks are very expensive, with a soft drink costing up to 45NOK, so maybe bring your own. The food was good and fairly priced for the portion. My rating is 5/5 because of the staff.
There’s very little to do in the low season, and 99% of the museum is in Norwegian. It might be more fun during high season, but at this price, I wouldn’t spend the money on a low-season visit.
Good spot for a family picnic, though it’s a little expensive for a park.
