Scandic Fauske Hotel

The renovations seemed promising, and they were already underway during our stay. The beds were good, and the bathroom was like new, big, and comfortable. The old carpet and couch didn't bother me. Breakfast was the problem: the eggs were rubbery, and the fruit and vegetables looked dried out, like they'd been there for days. The long black-haired Russian-speaking woman kept trying to gossip with her coworker behind the bar while the coworker was working. They checked our stay before letting us into the buffet, which I understand, but it was handled in a strict, unpleasant way. Then she openly gossiped about us and other guests, and it made us uncomfortable. Could she at least do that out of sight, or better, not do it at all?

I wouldn't recommend staying here. During my weekend stay in August, I found that one of the two towels in my single room had already been used. It had a woman's face in makeup on it. I was shocked and didn't know whether the second towel was clean either. I took the dirty towel to reception on Saturday after showering. The man there only said, “I'll let them know,” with no apology or explanation. The service was awful. After checking out on Sunday, I realized at home that I'd left my perfume behind. It was an expensive bottle, 2,000 NOK for 60 ml. I called the hotel on Monday, 25 August, around 11, and the receptionist said she'd ask the staff if anything had been found in my room after checkout and call me back. I waited all day and heard nothing. I called again Tuesday, 26 August, but no one answered or returned my call. I didn't call Wednesday, but tried for a third time on Thursday, 27 August. I had to explain it all again to a different person. She said she'd look into it and call back. About an hour later, she told me she'd spoken to the staff member who cleaned my room, and there was no perfume in the bathroom. I know I left it there, so that seemed impossible. She said there was nothing she could do as long as the cleaner said nothing was there. I wouldn't accept that, and asked her to email hotel management. She said she would. I'm still waiting to hear from management, so I doubt she ever did. It's easier to put a bottle of perfume in a bag than a phone or tablet, since perfume can be used and those can't. Yes, it was my mistake to leave it behind, but I believe a staff member took it while cleaning and lied about it to the other hotel staff. Stay away. It's not worth even an hour, and I'll never recommend it to anyone.

The rooms were small and extremely hot, with no air conditioning, and the windows wouldn't open all the way. The old carpets were ugly and dirty. Seagulls were noisy, so I barely slept. Food came from a tiny serving area, which meant long queues, and it was the same both nights.

The reception was well kept and the location was satisfactory, but my stay was still disappointing. I was excited about the promised panoramic view, but the room they assigned was uncomfortably warm because the air conditioning wasn't working. There was no proper ventilation in the restroom either, and no bidet or alternative, not even a dipper or pitcher. In such hot weather, a cold shower would have helped, but there wasn't even a small fridge for cold drinks. I often stay at SCANDIC hotels in Finland, where cleanliness and completeness are usually assured, so this was especially disappointing.
