The owner came banging on my parents’ door at 22:15 while they were asleep, accusing us of refusing to pay. When he understood that we’d never said that and that his own staff had agreed we could settle at checkout, he said he hoped we wouldn’t return. We agree with him on that. We’d driven for six hours and were tired. Nobody had told us about the unusual rule that dinner couldn’t be charged to the room. Staff initially wouldn’t let us leave the restaurant to get our cards from our rooms, even though they already had our IDs and card details on file. In the end they agreed we could pay at checkout. We stayed one night in two double rooms, one for my brother and me and one for our parents. One room had dirty sheets and a dirty toilet. The other had a very low sloping ceiling with no warning, and my 80-year-old father hit his head twice just standing up from the bed. Its sheets were torn in several places too. The pool was visibly dirty, with brown sediment on the bottom, and the jacuzzi jets didn’t work. They also provided no slippers or towels for the pool. After we raised the problems, reception said dinner would be on the house. At the restaurant, though, we were told they’d cover only one person’s meal. The menu was mostly in Norwegian, which didn’t make non-Norwegian guests feel welcome, and the food was the worst we had during seven days of travel in Norway. For example, the tenderloin béarnaise was clearly reheated multiple times. The color was off, it was so thick it wouldn’t pour, and it stayed put when the container was turned upside down. This was by far the worst stay of our trip. Everywhere else in Norway, we met friendly staff and found clean facilities and good food. Storjefell Resort was the lone black mark. I’d strongly recommend avoiding it.

I’ve never been there, but people in the lobby are trying to connect to the Wi-Fi using my email, even though I’m on the other side of the planet. Scammers.

For the price, I was pretty disappointed. The accommodation is basic, the Wi-Fi is extremely poor, and the bathroom has an annoying automatic light, especially at night. The cleaning staff never knock before entering and don’t apologize. They have the only shop around, but there isn’t much in it. The food and restaurant service were good, though this morning’s breakfast was really awful.

The dinner buffet was a highlight, with dozens of dishes and no corners cut: good quality meat, several fish dishes, salads, and probably 15 kinds of dessert. The dining room was clean and had plenty of staff. I enjoyed the pools, sauna, and jacuzzi, especially around 13:00 when it’s quiet, even though the pool area could use a small upgrade. There’s a lot for kids to do at night too, including table tennis, shuffleboard, a disco, and a magician. They’ve also recently installed about 8 electric car chargers, which was appreciated since the car comes up the hill fully loaded.

The breakfast was fantastic, and the pool and sauna are great. The hotel has a perfect location and service. I stayed in a single economic room. Sometimes there’s live music in the evenings, and the hall has cozy spots where you can sit and relax.
