Sandvika Camping

The cabin gave us a lovely view over the water and mountains, and we were lucky enough to see the aurora. We had barbecues on the porch and breakfast with a nice view. It was quiet and beautiful, and a good base for visiting the Lofoten islands. This was the best stay of our Norway honeymoon trip. I’d read quite a few negative reviews, and I think the experience may depend on the cabin and the day of the week. We stayed five days and left on Saturday. It was mostly empty, though lots of people, especially in motorhomes, arrived Friday. Even Friday evening we didn’t hear anyone. The WiFi didn’t reach our cabin, so we had to go nearer the reception building to get a connection. Reception was closed most of the time and hard to contact, so we only reached them by phone. That didn’t bother us, and I guess it’s common in Norway, but it could be an issue for someone else.

The manager offered to move us to another cottage, but we’d already decided the whole place wasn’t worth the frustration. We’d booked three nights and left after just one, and the manager wasn’t willing to refund anything. The drone pictures looked lovely, but the place we saw was quite different. There was rubbish around our cottage, and the fridge, table and couch hadn’t been cleaned properly. The windows were in very bad shape, and the toilet flush button stuck. For what it is, the place felt low budget and relatively expensive.

The staff were incredibly kind, and there’s a little beach where you can swim if the sun’s out. The restaurant serves good food too. It’s a very good place to stay when visiting Svolvær. Don’t hesitate to come here! :)

The huts badly need renovation and ours was dirty, with windows that looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in years. Parking spaces right in front of the hut also block the view. WiFi didn’t work, and the staff still hadn’t managed to fix it. Of the six toilets, three were closed, leaving long queues. It’s expensive for what you get. Look elsewhere if you want a nice stay on the lofotes.
