Karasjok Camping

We pitched our tent here for two nights. The campsite is in a nice spot and well maintained, and the showers were clean. Staff were cheerful and friendly. They invited every guest to a bonfire in the lavvu, which was a kind gesture. There’s no common sitting room apart from the kitchen, and that room is pretty small, though tidy. Using the washer or dryer costs a 40 NOK token.

The cabins are small but cozy, and I slept well. Mine was the same one on both visits, with a bunk bed, a double mattress below and a single one above, a small fridge, water boiler, little table, and sofa. Bedsheets and towels aren’t included. I could park easily, and during wi ter time it’s possible to plug in the car. There’s also a lovely path for walking into the village. I’ve stayed at this camping twice, once in November last year and again recently in October. Both visits were quiet, so I had no trouble using the shared kitchen, toilets, or showers, and the facilities were clean. I didn’t use the washing machines, but they were available for an extra cost. Reception has limited hours in low season, though they were flexible and found a spot for me after a last-minute call. Recommended!

We had a really pleasant stay at Karasjok Camping. The owner was kind when we spoke by phone, and the staff helped us get our camper unstuck from the snow. The showers and bathrooms had just been renovated. We were also told we could use the sauna if we wanted. We’d definitely return.

The laundry charges at this campsite left us pretty unhappy. We were quoted 70 NOK for one wash or dry cycle, already a lot, then found out there was another 100 NOK per person for non-residents. They said it was to “maintain fairness” for other residents, but the campsite was far from busy and the machines weren’t being used when we were there. That explanation didn’t feel credible. Afterward we found a lovely campsite in Lakselv where a wash or dry cost just 20 NOK. Their machines were noticeably larger, there were no extra or hidden fees, and the staff were incredibly warm and friendly. I overheard someone ask if they had space for another caravan. The owner gave a little smile, shrugged, and said, “It’s very full, but let’s go and see if we can fit you in somewhere.” That willingness to help made our experience in Karasjok feel even more disappointing. If you plan to do laundry here, be prepared for steep charges for a basic service. Between the price and extra fees, the setup felt very unfair and unclear. If affordable, straightforward laundry matters to you, consider another option. Think twice before doing laundry here.
