Hotel Ullensvang

The hotel has a lot of rooms to explore, with pictures and old furniture, and it also has indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, and the fjord if you can handle the very cold water. We had a room facing Hardangerfjord, and waking up to that view each morning was so nice. It’s a beautiful, quite large hotel. Highly recommend staying here.

The dinner buffet was amazing, and I recommend it. There’s also a great swimming pool, an adults’ sauna, and an outdoor pool. You can relax with coffee or drinks in the hotel’s many small rooms, or sit outside or in. The basement bar opens at 21:00 and has good seating, and the gym is large with plenty of good equipment. Service was good, the hotel and location were very nice, and the rooms and beds were comfortable. It’s a short drive to Trolltunga, with the monks' stairs and the queen's path right outside. Bunpris, two pizza/cafe restaurants, and cider farms are all a short distance away.

The on-site restaurant was excellent, with a wide range of buffet options. The swim-through pool was pleasant, and the sauna was nice too, though the hot tub was really just a warm tub. Our room was nice and had a fjord view, but it got warm without air conditioning. It’s a lovely historic hotel that could use some attention. From the hotel we went up the road into the national Forest for a challenging, steep 11 km round-trip hike, with beautiful views of the town.

We loved the pools, which felt almost private because hardly anyone was there. The separate adults’ section was much appreciated, and the relax room with water and fruit was a welcome surprise. We chose the place in November for its location, stunning view, pool, and access to local hikes, and my wife and I had a wonderful stay. Breakfast was a great buffet, and restaurant service was sufficient. The dinner buffet had a huge selection and left us very full. Prices felt too high, especially wine at five times the price at Winemonopoly. With few alternatives nearby, the hotel seems to take advantage of that a bit, as with the tight parking, which also costs extra. We loved more or less everything, but it is expensive. Next time we’d stay in Odda or a local B&B.
