Solhov

The views were great, there were a few free parking spots, and they gave us some really good suggestions for things to do nearby. I mentioned it was my birthday and got a nice room. Still, the hallway was quite cold, and the shower was shared in the hallway. Shoes aren't allowed inside, so bring slippers. They said they could provide some, but we didn't receive any. They mentioned breakfast and lunch without explaining the prices or what was included. Dinner felt overpriced for what we got, so I'm not sure I'd recommend the place.

The place has charm, and I met some great people there. The staff were great too, but I learned a few things the hard way. The rooms were cheap, so I took a chance on the farm fresh two course meal. For two people, the chicken noodle soup alone cost almost as much as the room, and the second course was yogurt with a little jam. It was a rough night's sleep. People weren't loud, but sound carried easily, and I could hear them walking down the hall to use the bathrooms. While I was taking a deuce, someone in the room next to the closet bathroom was saying how awful it was sleeping beside the toilet. I could hear their conversation clearly. They had to keep the children in line in 1928. At one point I did get gitty as a school kid, but I got schooled.

That fjord-view room and the ski touring in the Lyngen Alps were both incredible, and we even got to see the northern lights. We spent a full week at solhov at the end of February with matthieu and Ingunn, who did everything they could to make the stay memorable. Matthieu's homemade bread, honey, and desserts after dinner were lovely too. We fell in love with the place and will definitely be back.

The old building was interesting to explore, with its own history and style. Inside, the rooms felt cozy, and though the decor was simple, it was clearly thought through. The location worked really well for our drive from northern Finland and our plans to visit Blåvatnet the following morning. It met all our needs.
