Basecamp Narvik

It’s right by the skiing, which was fun, and the walk into town took me 20-30 minutes each way. I enjoyed it. The lobby and bar service were great too, with a friendly person on hand to help with logistics or get something from the bar. My room and bed were cozy, and the view was spectacular. I loved staying at Basecamp Narvik.

The one good thing was the great view from the rooms. The hotel calls itself an “ecological hotel,” but my experience felt like the opposite. The room door opens directly outdoors and has no insulation, the temperature can’t be adjusted, and the lighting is gloomy. The bathroom is a complete architectural failure. Our shower broke and only gave cold water, and it still hadn’t been fixed after two days. The service was barely above basic, so “Basic camp” would fit better.

We saw the northern lights from our room, which had a good view and plenty of space. It was a well-maintained, newly built room, and the reception staff were all nice and friendly. It’s a pity Narvik Fjellet wasn’t fully open, since we couldn’t ski back to the room.

We found the room too dark, even though it had lots of lights, and it also got very hot. We struggled to cool it down overnight. The view toward Narvik centre and the Fjord was beautiful. The room was well equipped with a stove, kettle, kitchen utensils, and a cafetière, but there were no consumables apart from dish soap, hand soap, and a dishwasher tablet. Check-in was very easy and efficient, with the door code sent by text.
