Trolltunga Hotel

The double room worked perfectly for me as a solo traveller. After I checked out and spent the day hiking, they kindly let me use the shower, which was so nice of them. Friendly staff, amazing views, and a perfect base for exploring the area and hiking in the local mountains. I'll definitely be back!

I meant to stay just one night, then decided to add a second. The breakfast was great, and the dinner options were yummy. Staff were excellent and made me feel at home. Getting here takes a quick bus ride or about half an hour walking uphill from the bus station, but I think it's worth it as a great starting point for the Trolltunga hike. Would recommend!

We'd stopped at the hotel for coffee, drawn by its beautiful location. When we noticed the kayaks, a friendly Brazilian staff member warmly welcomed us, rented them to us for 750kr, and even let us prepare breakfast there while the restaurant was closed. It was a kind gesture after a week of camping. We paddled around the lake for several hours. When we got back tired and hungry and started making a simple lunch, a manager or owner with a Scandinavian appearance came out visibly frustrated. She waved her arms, pointed at our things, and told us to pack up and leave immediately. We felt treated more like unwanted vagabonds than paying guests. We explained that we'd paid for the kayaks that morning and had been welcomed by her staff for breakfast, but she wouldn't discuss it. She insisted we take our food and pot of boiling water across the street, and wouldn't even let us finish in the parking lot. The kind staff and lovely surroundings had made for a positive start, but the manager's unnecessarily hostile attitude turned it into a very unpleasant experience. It's a shame, as the location has so much potential. The treatment from management left us with a very negative impression.

The breakfast buffet was the highlight of our three-night stay, and it's open 6am-10am. The spread was legendary, with cereal, eggs, sausages, waffles and toast. Staff were polite and diligent about making up our room each day. The rooms are clean, small and basic, on the edge of town. Our 10 sqm double room included the bathroom and had an amazing view of the fjord across the road. The tiny bathroom made clever use of the space, with a folding shower screen, small sink, shelves and towel hooks. Just be warned, the shower pressure was poor, barely more than a spray. The room had a kettle and two mugs, but one was cracked and leaked hot water when we tried making tea. There's no mini fridge, so we couldn't keep our store-bought yoghurts cold. The walls were pretty thin, and we could hear people in the rooms on both sides. Wi-Fi is available in the common areas, but the signal didn't reach our room, only four doors from reception. Laundry access costs NOK 100, and the room only has a washing machine, no tumble dryer, so we passed. The fire alarm went off at 10.30pm, waking us since most nearby activities start early. We got dressed and went down the corridor to evacuate, then were told it was a false alarm. For me, it's more like flash packing for the 30+ year old Trolltunga hiker. We paid NOK 7,650 for three nights in August 2025.
