Trolltunga Studios

At AUD$270 a night, the tiny room felt like a lot of money for what we got. We couldn't get prompt replies either, so it was hard to know what facilities were actually there. After a 20km hike, we wanted to treat ourselves to a private room and comfortable bed, but found no laundry facilities, no toilet roll holder or place for toiletries, and no shower gel. There was only a half-used toilet roll and no spare. It was so hot, with no fan or other appliance to help me sleep comfortably. Norway has had great weather in the past, but the planet's warming and Norway gets hot, so guests need to be comfortable, especially at that price. The bathrooms seemed recently renovated and looked nice, but a lot still needs to change. There's potential here, but it needs thought and investment.

The rooms are modern and clean, and the location is perfect for the Trolltunga hike. Prices are high, but the convenience is what you're paying for. The outside view is the one downside, it isn't very charming.

The management was great about understanding our disappointment with the room and offering us the option to cancel if we could find somewhere more suited to our needs. We couldn't, since everything in town was booked, but it was great of them to offer. The trolltunga studio gives you the hostel experience, with a shared kitchen and dining room where hikers can share meals and stories. Most people there are hikers. The rooms are spartan, but it's a hostel, so you can't ask for more. The one issue was that there was also a music festival in town when we stayed. All the rooms were booked, and we got the 'worst' one next to the noisy kitchen. It was OK, though. We were so tired that we slept.

This studio room was dirty, small, and very hot in summer because of poor ventilation. There were stains and dirt on the mattress under the sheets and around the room. The building feels more like a hostel and sits beside a disused construction site. It's very expensive, with proximity to Trolltunga and last-minute availability as its only real positives. I'd highly recommend looking at other accommodation if you can.
