Hotel Verdandi Oslo

The double twin room was tiny, though the large, updated bathroom was nice. It had a strangely long nook with a little desk at the far end. It was fine for a quick overnight, and I’d stay again, though travellers expecting a great hotel might be underwhelmed. I’m not picky. The hotel is in a lively part of the city and easy to reach by airport express train. Check-in was straightforward, and city maps were on a counter by the elevators. The fine print said check-in was until 11pm, but the whole process is self-directed, so I’m not sure how that works. We arrived at 2250. There’s a lobby bar, so it didn’t seem like the entrance would be locked after 11 if the bar was open.

The restaurant and bar were great, especially in the evenings after a full day exploring Oslo, and the staff were really friendly. Breakfast was decent too. It’s an affordable spot right in the middle of the city. The room was pretty decent for the price, which is saying something in expensive Scandinavia, and seemed especially suited to solo travellers.

The whole process is electronic, from check-in to check-out, and there’s no one at reception. That didn’t bother us. The rooms are very small, but the hotel itself is great and you get what you pay for. We paid 250 GBP and thought it was good value, close to the fjord and an easy walk from the train station and central Oslo.

Clean rooms, a good location, and friendly staff made for a nice stay. But what I’ll remember is the bartender, Konstantin. He was cheerful and professional, remembered everyone’s favorite drinks, and made the best cocktails I’ve ever had. The atmosphere he created at the bar each evening made an ordinary stay memorable. Make sure to stop by and meet him if you visit!
