Oslo Hostel Rønningen

The views are wowee, and the location is great if you don't mind staying out of the center on top of a hill. It's about a 40-minute slow ride home uphill from central Oslo, but the route along the river is beautiful. The rooms are small and very basic for the price, though clean and comfortable. Breakfast is limited but nice enough. I'd definitely return if it were a bit cheaper, especially if you're into the outdoors.

Really nice spot in a pleasant part of Oslo, close to public transport. The people at reception were super friendly, and you can use the kitchen and washing machine for free. We had a great time with the games, especially table football and the shuffleboard game.

The view is astonishing, and everything else about our stay was great too, from the service and rooms to the board games and breakfast. The bedrooms are huge because it's a boarding school, and you can use the washing machines. The staff were very helpful. It's well connected to the city center, though quite far from it. A tip for first-time visitors: even if Google Maps says to get off the bus at Gulldalen, stay on for two more stops and get off at Ronningen. If you leave at Gulldalen, you'll have to haul your luggage down more than 200 wooden steps on a very steep staircase through the woods.

For Norway, it's great value. I had a clean, well-equipped single room with loads of space and extra power points. The common areas had a big TV, library, games, and more. Each set of four single rooms shared two toilets and showers, so there were no issues. Every floor also had a kitchen, two free washers and dryers, and an ironing room. Motorcycles can usually be parked under cover around the back of the main building. Spar is the closest food outlet. They only serve breakfast and sell sweets and ice cream, but free tea and coffee are available 24/7. I'd stay again.
