We could get from the airport train to the hotel through the mall, and food, a pharmacy, and shops are all in the same building. Most viewpoints are walkable, and trams stop nearby. It was noisy, though: I could hear the next-door conversation while lying in bed. Staff were friendly, and breakfast had everything you need in the morning. We stayed two nights with a travel group and had a good stay overall.

The room suited me fine for a business trip, and the receptionists were very kind. This central, convenient hotel makes getting around as a tourist easier, with the central station right outside the door.

I stayed at Scandic Byporten in November 2024. I'm writing this a year later because I hope it helps future visitors to Oslo avoid a similar experience, not because I still expect an apology. On my second day, there was confusion about a luggage moving service for a tour pickup. One staff member had confirmed it earlier, but another, whom I'll call “Staff A,” later said the service wasn't available. I politely asked to speak with a manager to clear things up. At around 10 PM that night, rather than resolving the issue, Staff A and a man identifying himself as the manager told me to leave the hotel. They said the reason was that “Staff A cried in the back office.” At the time, they didn't explain any specific policy violation or misconduct by me. When I asked why I was being made to leave, the manager wouldn't cite a hotel policy and instead said, “I can tell by looking at your face, you’re unpleasant.” In an email dated February 19, 2025, the hotel's General Manager acknowledged that the remark was made and apologized, confirming the incident as I described it. Two questions remain unanswered despite that acknowledgment: What specific actions or behavior of mine led to the decision to remove me? And what hotel policy, if any, was given as justification? There was also a billing problem at check-in. My prepaid reservation was charged twice, and the hotel only acknowledged and refunded the extra charge after I got home and emailed them. In my experience, the hotel responded to a service dispute by removing a guest late at night and making a personal remark instead of giving a clear explanation or policy-based reason. If respectful communication and proper handling of problems matter to you, take this into account. I kept the related emails and receipts and can provide documentation if asked.
