We celebrated with family over a lovely weekend at Tuddal Høyfjells-Hotel. They’d put tremendous effort into «Babettes feast», which we really enjoyed. The owner and staff were kind, friendly, and service-minded without ever being too much. Our room was very clean, cosy, and full of historical character. It was a unique experience, and I’d love to return. There are great chances to explore the spectacular nature nearby, including Gaustadtoppem! ❤️

It’s a funny little hotel, and you can sense and smell its history. That also means it feels very old, so it’s not somewhere I’d choose to spend hours or stay overnight.

Dinner was one of the highlights of our stay. In the beautiful dining room, we had fresh, creative, delicious food while looking out over the fjell. The chef made entirely new dishes for the vegetarians in our group, which was a welcome surprise since eating vegetarian in Norway can be a challenge and the food there doesn’t usually impress us. The whole place felt personal and authentic, from its collectible and heirloom furniture to the lovely staff and stunning natural setting. Before dinner, the owner shared the hotel’s history, talked about the difficulties during Covid and how they got through them, and read a poem. We don’t understand Norwegian, unfortunately, so we needed the presentation’s translation afterwards. They clearly make an effort to be sustainable. There’s a vegetable garden, they bake their delicious bread on the premises, and the shop carries local cheese, honey, and other specialties, along with sweets, of course. We brought a box of the amazing Flatbrød home with us. Our stay at Tuddal Høyfjellshotel was far too short, and we’re already dreaming of coming back to enjoy more of its magic and the surrounding nature. To the owners: you’re a genuine gem. The world needs more places like this. Thank you for everything!

I haven’t stayed at the hotel myself, but I’ve eaten many times at Gildehallen, its small café. The food and beer are great, with plenty sourced locally. The menu shifts a bit, but often includes mountain trout, a reindeer burger, rømmegrøt, fresh soup (traditional sour cream porridge), and Norwegian waffles. The older hotel overlooks a lake, with good hiking nearby and cross-country ski tracks in winter. It also has a shop, bakery, café, gourmet restaurant, and brewery. Definitely worth a stop if you’re planning to climb Gaustatoppen.

We had a truly wonderful stay, and my husband and I can’t recommend this charming hotel enough. The rooms are beautifully decorated, with careful attention to detail. After we checked in, a kind staff member showed us around and shared what she knew about the building, hotel, local area, and the family’s history. The restaurant food was outstanding, made with locally sourced ingredients, and the wine pairings were wonderful. There’s also a bakery and brewery on site, so we got to enjoy tasty bread and freshly brewed beer. Many thanks to everyone. We look forward to seeing the family and returning to the hotel soon.
