Polar Cabin

Michal and Janna are welcoming hosts who really try to make sure you have a good time. Their wooden house sits in the forest among lakes and mountains, about 30 minutes from Tromso. There’s great local food and a range of activities, so it’s ideal if you like hiking. Definitely recommend it. We were there in summer, at the end of May. If you visit in winter, don’t come only for the Northern Lights, since nobody can predict whether you’ll see them. Come for the nature, varied landscape, and local experience too.

Jana and Mikal are a lovely couple who sincerely try to help you enjoy your time. Polar Cabin is a great base for a few days of winter or summer adventures in northern Norway. Clouds or low intensity made the Northern Lights hard to catch, so it was good to stay enough days to finally see them. I also spent the other days skiing and snowshoeing in the area. Recommended.

After snowshoeing up to and around the polar cabin, we stopped there for a warm, excellent lunch on the way down from the tall hill nearby. Jana and Michal were kind, great hosts, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We had a wonderful time hiking through the snow and seeing the northern lights. The cabin was warm, comfortable, and clean, and it works especially well for a group. It takes a bit of a hike to get there from the bus stop (sor vagnes surplass), and buses aren't frequent, so check connections ahead of time. Bring your own groceries. Snow shoes are needed in winter, and the hosts, Jana & Michael, can arrange them. Any questions? Feel free to ask me :)
