Clarion Hotel The Edge

We paid an average of 3,593 NOK per night for 10 nights. That was a high price, but understandable in Tromsø’s peak season, and only a little above other nearby hotels. I’d recommend it for a comfortable stay in Tromsø. The hotel is centrally located, near most tour meeting points and plenty of restaurants. Breakfast was hearty and delicious, though the choices barely changed over our 10-day stay. The staff were professional and helpful, and spoke fluent English. The room was spotless, with thorough daily housekeeping, and the bed had soft, fluffy pillows. Hot water heated quickly, a real plus in the cold climate, and the air conditioning was adjustable. The elevators were reasonably quick, with short waits even at breakfast time. There were only two electrical sockets by the desk, which may be inconvenient if you have several devices. There’s no room safe, but my laptop and camera lenses were left unattended throughout our stay without any problems. There’s a window next to the bed that opens partially.

The rooms were clean and cozy, and the service was good and helpful. Breakfast was great each morning, with enough food and coffee to choose from. My one complaint is the bathroom, where the sink was small and narrow, and the shower had no shelves. The location is really convenient, with shops and restaurants right outside the front door. It’s also a great base for excursions, since most tours leave from nearby.

We spent two weekends here and could walk everywhere we wanted to go. The rooms were a good size, with lovely views over the water, and breakfast had a great variety. All the staff were friendly. The one downside was check-in, which was extremely slow both times. They need more staff to handle the number of guests arriving.

The hotel itself is fabulous and perfectly located close to all the tourist spots. We stayed in the third week of January and really enjoyed it. Highly recommend!
