The rooms are small, but they were clean and tidy, and the beds were comfortable. Bring a hairdryer, since some basic amenities like that may not be available. The restaurant food was only average and could be better. Selbu Hotel has a cozy feel and an old-fashioned interior that keeps its historic character. It isn’t a luxury hotel, but the lake location and lovely views make it a relaxing place to stay. The building’s history adds to the experience, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It also seems well suited to hosting events and special occasions.

The decor feels like it’s from a few decades back, which I actually love. Nice hotel, nice setting, and the staff were really friendly and helpful.

Fawlty Towers 2.0. We ended up here because of circumstances we hadn’t planned for. At first the hotel seemed charming, but the stay quickly turned into a nightmare. The receptionist was exceptionally friendly and professional. She later apologized for how her colleagues had acted, and I felt she deserved much better. Her attitude was top class. The rooms are dated and seem to need renovation by more than 20 years. In the restaurant, it felt as if our group and the other guests weren’t welcome. The older waitress barely acknowledged us for half an hour, then gave us menus, and it took just as long to get drinks. She hovered around looking angry, and nobody seemed to get a chance to order. If she doesn’t like the job, she should find another one. The cook eventually came over and said they had nothing available except meatballs. Those and the side dish were ice cold. He should find another job, maybe as a bricklayer, lumberjack, or truck driver. The wine list looked extensive and promising, but none of the five bottles I ordered were in stock. The receptionist said all the ingredients and dishes were there, but the chef, under heavy pressure from the waitress, didn’t want to prepare them. I’ve since read the other reviews. Either they were written by a ghost or by someone paid to write them. What I described is the reality. Owner, bring in the demolition hammer.

The lake view is fantastic, and the track runs right alongside Selbu lake. Selbu Hotel has a great lunch menu too. Spend the day or stay overnight and enjoy the lovely setting and food. It deserves five stars. 😀
