Radisson Blu Atlantic Hotel, Stavanger

The breakfast buffet had plenty of fresh, tasty choices, and the restaurant staff were especially attentive. My room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, with a cozy bed, a well-kept bathroom, and daily housekeeping. The hotel is close to attractions, shops, and transport, yet quiet enough for a good night's rest. Check-in was quick, and the staff were welcoming and professional from the moment I arrived. I had a great stay and would gladly come back. It exceeded my expectations, and I'd recommend it for comfort, service, and value.

We got to the Radisson Blu Atlantic Hotel Stavanger after 3pm and checked in at $200SGD/night. I was glad we were upgraded to a level 5 room overlooking the fountain at Byparken. It was spacious, and the shower was comfortable with hot water ready to go. We also visited the gym and sauna on level 12, both with unblocked views. You can shower there after using the sauna. The gym is open from 6am to 11pm, and the sauna from 7am to 12pm and 5pm to 10pm. On a clear day, the outdoor terrace gives you open views of the mountains, as we had that day.

I'm only halfway through the stay and just hope I can get through the rest of it and leave. The beds are the main problem: the pillows and mattress need to be better. I sink into them, and after sleeping there my back is terrible. Under the thin, soft top layer, I could feel the bed-base springs. The room also gets too hot at night, and there should be better control over the heating. Clear instructions for using the air con would help too. The restaurant food upset my stomach the next day, and there need to be more vegan choices so I don't have to keep ordering out. I've stayed at Radisson hotels in other countries, and this one doesn't compare.

Breakfast was the biggest letdown: cold scrambled eggs, extremely chewy bacon, bland potatoes, and greasy pancakes. If I’d had another option, I’d have left. Getting there had already been frustrating, with a wait of more than 20 minutes to check in and no acknowledgment of my customer status benefits. That wasn't a good welcome for a tired business traveler. The room also didn't live up to what the pictures had led me to expect, which was something like the Royal in Copenhagen. The bed was okay and the bathroom nice, but the water pressure was weak in the morning. The location is sort of good, though every hotel in central Stavanger is within a 5-10 minute walk of the others, so I can't really count that as a plus.
