The rooms feel roomy, the beds were among the best we’ve had in Norway, and the overall atmosphere is really nice. The food was another highlight, made with local ingredients and clearly handled by a chef who knows what he’s doing. We had three courses, and my wife couldn’t finish either her main or dessert, even though she wanted to. Very large eaters might want more, but the portions seemed right for food of this quality. The staff were friendly, skilled, and knew their stuff. We also loved the jacuzzi, especially the view and bubbles. The renovation does look as if the budget ran out near the end, though the choices they made were sensible, and the price for the quality still gets five stars from me. Definitely recommend it.

We spent our first two nights here before setting off from Ålesund around the fjords. The hotel sits in a quiet, scenic spot on the mountainside, in a classic building that may be Swiss-style. Our junior suite was spacious and finished to a high standard, and breakfast was a good buffet. We booked the set dinner when we arrived, and it was excellent, with lots of variety served in a gourmet style over roughly 90 minutes. On our second night, we were lucky enough to catch the Viking dinner, which runs only when at least 10 guests sign up. Ole gave a lovely account of Viking history, focusing on food and daily life, and shared his family’s history in the area.

Ole, the owner and manager, made us feel very welcome and even printed a walking map for us. We used it the next day for a wonderful hike to a mountain lake, with superb views over the fjords. The hotel itself is beautifully set in a peaceful mountain location, close to the iconic Norwegian fjords. Our two dinners were both fantastic: one in the Viking Room, where we heard about Ole 's descendants and had an authentic "viking" menu, and the other in the hotel restaurant, where the food was delicious and beautifully presented. Breakfast was excellent too. The rooms were generous in size, comfortable, and well appointed. We had such a lovely stay that we’ve already booked to return to Blatind in 2026, and are looking forward to it.

We came across this hotel by chance, and I’m so glad we did. The views are breathtaking, breakfast was delicious, and everyone on staff was lovely. We missed the Viking dinner this time, but we’ll come back and try it on another visit. Others have said plenty already, so I’ll just say this: don’t come to Norway without staying here!

The attention to guests was especially thoughtful and really high quality. Compared with the other hotels around Geiranger, this place felt like a step up, with a luxurious and very pleasant atmosphere. We had a wonderful stay. We did miss out on dinner in the Viking cabin, which sounds like it could have been a unique, memorable experience. Highly recommended.
