I've stayed here a few times and it's a nice place overall. The spa has an amazing pool and sauna, and there's a decent gym included with the stay. The buffet breakfast is great, and they serve dinner too, with a bar for anyone who drinks. It's almost in the center of town. The rooms are very clean, though I find them a little small, and the view depends on which side you're on. There's nothing outside but the street, though you can reach parks and open areas in Stavanger with a short walk. Buses go by, and there are paid scooters and bikes outside.

The location is very convenient, close to everything, though the hotel sits at the top of a hill. The fb40 bus from the airport goes here easily and costs £18 return. I stayed alone with my baby in late September and enjoyed the visit overall. It felt worth the price, and the room was spacious with everything we needed, despite a few signs of wear. The bathroom silicone could use replacing, and I found a hair in the shower. Breakfast was lovely, especially the waffles, but some seed-free bread would help people with allergies. The pool was nice, though the water felt a bit cold, especially for babies. You book it with a QR code, then access is added to your key card. Breakfast staff were wonderful and helped me; the desk staff were less helpful, as the girl didn't tell me where breakfast was or when checkout was. It seemed mainly like a hotel for solo business trips, with very few children. The air-con/heating system in my room (404) needs maintenance. Every morning I woke with dry eyes and mouth and a runny nose, and my allergies and asthma flared up. Symptoms went away during the day and came back when I slept, so it was definitely the room. It was very unpleasant. They set up a travel cot for my baby, but the mattress was extremely thin and bouncy, while babies are meant to sleep on a firm mattress.

Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere, plus a relaxing pool and sauna. The rooms are nice, but haven't been updated in a while, and the bedding is quite thin.

The room had stains all over the floor, and the beds were worn out and much too soft. I also couldn't change the temperature on the AC, which was a big letdown for a hotel calling itself "royal" and rated 4 stars. It's an old building with poor sound insulation, so I could hear people in the neighboring rooms. Breakfast was standard. I stayed here 10 years ago, when a different company owned it, and the quality was much higher then. Before arriving, I asked to rebook and was charged an extra fee without being told in advance. They also changed my superior room to a standard one without telling me, yet still charged extra for the downgrade.

The place is expensive, but feels completely worn out, like it hasn't had much investment in recent years. The bed was super uncomfortable, and I couldn't control the AC or heating myself. I wanted to turn it off so I could sleep, but it's managed centrally. It presents itself as a 4 star hotel, yet even a youth hostel has better service, and this one charges 4 EUR for half a bottle of water. Never again, Scandic.
