Dreges Hotell - by Classic Norway Hotels

The room was covered by scaffolding, so the window view was blocked, and we could hear workers while checking in at 3:45 pm. The next morning they started hammering and cutting the outside walls with an electric saw at 8:15. We’d planned to sleep in before the six-hour drive back to Bergen, but a maid also entered the wrong room abruptly at 8:00 and slammed the door, waking us. It was a very unpleasant stay at Dreges Hotell. Nearly 70% of the hotel’s exterior was being repaired, which we only discovered when we arrived. Nothing about the work had been mentioned during booking. We were there June 26, 2025, and it looked like a major renovation that could carry on all summer. Be aware if you’re thinking of booking during summer 2025.

Lars Thornur made the whole stay for us. He kept the pool open later so our kids could have a swim, and that really made our trip. We’ve stayed at four or more hotels on this trip, but haven’t had hospitality like this anywhere else. The host and front desk receptionist were incredibly welcoming. 10/10.

We were told two different things by reception about how long the noise would continue and whether we could get our money back. Then the hotel and booking site each said the other was responsible for the refund. We got screwed, and it was some of the worst commercial ethics I’ve experienced. The building is surrounded by scaffolding during renovation, with workers hitting the exterior walls with tools from 8 am. The hotel hadn’t told the reservation sites about the construction and wouldn’t make arrangements with guests. Don’t book here if a good night’s sleep matters to you.

Lars thorner was an amazing host. We haven’t had service or hospitality this good anywhere on our trip, and this was probably our best hotel. I’d recommend it 100/10.
