The hotel's setting and location could make it a great destination, which makes the stay a bit of a shame. Our suite was bright and very spacious, though in summer the early morning light could be an issue. The included breakfast buffet was disappointing, and got worse over the three days we were there as the selection shrank each day. The cappuccino machine stopped working properly after day one. Housekeeping and room amenities were sparse, and the large sliding patio door could use a fresh coat of paint.

Dinner options are limited, though what we had was good quality. Breakfast on Sunday was good too. The rooms are adequate, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It's a lovely spot right on the waterfront, but some rooms don't have blackout blinds.

The food was good, and we enjoyed dinner. The room was warm and cozy, with a nice view, and the price felt reasonable. My only reason for giving it four stars is that the drains weren't working well.

We went for the Father's Day Sunday buffet. I've lived in Norway for a few years, so I know which traditional Norwegian dishes I enjoy. If you know the local food, you can find something to your taste, but don't expect international dishes or food from other countries.

I hadn't planned to stay at the hotel, but I missed the last bus and needed somewhere to wait overnight for morning transport. I booked by phone and arrived late in the evening, yet getting a room was no problem. For Norway, the price was low. The bed was wide with a soft mattress, and the room was warm and comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was delicious. If you're stopping overnight while travelling, and being outside central Ålesund isn't an issue, I'd highly recommend it.
