Thon Hotel Lofoten

The room was great, with a lovely view, a nice layout and size for a standard room, and a fridge. The staff welcomed us so warmly that I’m now hooked on being a Thon member. Everything was included, with no hassle about paying for a coffee when you want one during the day. Thank you! And that breakfast, there were so many things I didn’t know where to start. You could make your own juice! There were smoothies, fresh orange juice, and delicious coffee. That was just my liquid starter, which my husband teased me about 🤣.

The central location is excellent, with easy access to spectacular natural spots, entertainment, and several very good restaurants on foot. There’s also parking in an underground garage for guests arriving by car. We were kindly upgraded to a Business Room on the top floor, with a stunning view. It was quiet, tastefully furnished, and generally welcoming. Despite some problems, the location, view, and pleasant room made this a very good place to stay in Svolvær. The bathroom felt behind current international standards. It’s small, and the bathtub and sink drains weren’t working properly. The bathtub seemed to leak internally while I showered, with water then appearing on the floor in front of it. That can’t be ideal for the building. The hairdryer also stopped after about two minutes on the high setting, probably because the air intake needs a thorough cleaning. These were minor inconveniences I could overlook, and the water eventually disappeared from the floor. Housekeeping was much more disappointing. The room was more or less as expected on arrival, but the standard slipped over the week. On our last evening, the bed still hadn’t been made at 4:30 p.m. The towels had been changed, but the floor hadn’t been vacuumed and the bed wasn’t properly made. We don’t expect daily linen changes that use a lot of resources, but a made bed seemed a fair request. At reception we were first asked to wait about half an hour. After 45 minutes, nothing had changed, so we agreed to wait another 30 minutes, also with no result. Eventually they said they were short staffed and couldn’t service the room that day. We even offered to make the bed ourselves, at what’s considered one of the best hotels in Svolvær. We lost about two hours, but otherwise weren’t really disadvantaged. Still, I think it’s fair to mention this so future guests can get a balanced impression. Maybe another hotel wouldn’t have done any better.

We were upgraded to a suite, and the breakfast was stunning. You can make your own juice there. The hospitality was amazing too. When our taxi didn’t show up, a staff member, whose name I’m sorry I didn’t ask for, drove us to the airport in her own car. I’ll stay here again if I return to Svolvær.

The breakfast was the best part, with good variety and everything well prepared. The location is handy, with restaurants, shops, and supermarkets nearby. We stayed three nights, and while it’s a good place to stay in Lofoten, the experience was a little underwhelming. Our room was clean and decent, not especially spacious but reasonable, and the beds were fairly comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful, though responses could be slow. We had to wait a while for reception to get back to us.
