We spent a week here on a ski holiday. The ski area was great, but the cabin was a huge letdown. Water dripped through the roof all week, so we had to put kitchen buckets and bowls on the floor to catch it. Service staff came by several times to try to sort it out, and even the owner showed up, but every morning we still started by mopping the floor. Nothing worked. Now Gaustablikk Fjellresort’s rental agency is stonewalling us. We asked for at least a reduction in the rental price and still haven’t had a real reply, just “Thank you for your message, it has been passed along.” Based on this experience, I’d strongly discourage people from renting these cabins or anything else through Gaustablikk Fjellresort. When something goes wrong, there’s no help or service to be found.

There are trails all over the area for cross-country skiing and other winter activities. In summer, there are lots of places to hike and swim, too. The cabins are simple but have what you need, with two toilets, good heating throughout, and a sauna. A perfect winter spot.

We went as a big family group with people of all ages and would warmly recommend it. The owners, a Danish couple, really take care of things, and the food was good. The setting is fantastic, on the edge of a mountain forest near a large lake and ski trails, with stunning views. The accommodation itself is simple. We especially loved the cinema-like TV room for watching the FIFA World Cup finals. Canoes and kayaks were available to rent for free.

It’s a very nice place to stay, made entirely of wood, with Wi-Fi, a sauna, two toilets, a TV, a dishwasher, and eight beds. There’s a lake nearby, along with a small swimming pool and a hotel. Gaustatoppen’s starting point is just a three-minute drive away. The downside is the location: Rjukan, the nearest village, is 20 minutes away.

We came near the end of September and found the wooden cottage amazing and cosy. Just keep in mind that bed linen and towels cost extra.
