We booked a suite for four, expecting a well-run hotel. Instead, the room was dirty when we arrived in the early evening, with dust and long black hairs on the bathroom tiles and bright wooden floors. Reception said they’d sort it out while we went out, but nothing had been cleaned when we returned. They said there were no other rooms and nobody working could clean ours. When we wanted to leave, the woman at reception was rude and told us we’d have to pay if we went. We were ready to pay and leave because we couldn’t stay somewhere that takes money without giving decent service. I spend a few nights in hotels each year and am usually satisfied as long as the room is clean, in order, and the service is good. At th stupa hotel, none of that was true. It may have been my worst hotel stay ever. We won't stay there again or recommend it. I also expect privacy when I book a room, without a phone call disturbing me at midnight.

The room was dirty, needed painting, and the bathtub had hair in the drain and a filthy old shower curtain. I didn't shower. There was arguing in the lobby until almost 10 pm, and it echoed up to my room. At 5 am, alarms went off and there was banging in the hall. I booked online for $10.00, but was told on arrival it would be $17.00 with tax. It was late, so I had no other option. The manager let me use his computer to print my plane ticket and arranged a cab to another hotel so I could pick up some gear. He said a taxi to the airport would cost 300rps. When it was time to go, he drove me there in his own car, which I foolishly took as a favor. Traffic was bad and the trip took an hour. I offered 1000rps, but he demanded 2000 rps. I was glad to reach the airport just in time, so I didn't argue. After not telling me the ride would cost more than 300 rps and demanding 2000 rps, he handed me business cards, apparently hoping I'd recommend his hotel to friends. No way. He was pleasant to chat with, but I found him dishonest and the hotel dirty. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. This kind of behavior gives Nepal a bad name.

Hotel Stupa sits right in front of Baudha Stupa Gate, in a peaceful spot away from heavy traffic. I especially liked Pawan Rai's service. He's an all-rounder, polite, smooth, always smiling, and gets straight to the point. He doesn't know about political issues in any country.

The price is reasonable, and the accommodation is great. Everything at Hotel Stupa was neat and well managed, and I was delighted by how clean it was. They provide 24-hour service, which was awesome. Everyone there was polite and friendly. If you're looking for a hotel in kathmandu, I highly recommend it.

The rooms cost way too much, and the service is terrible. Worst hotel I've stayed at, and I wouldn't recommend it.
