Rokpa Guest House

The rooms are good quality and up to date, and breakfast was lovely. The restaurant serves excellent food too. The guesthouse, restaurant, and in house bakery are run by grown up children as part of their on the job training, or after completing vocational study and training as cooks or hosts and hostesses. Rokpa Questhouse is part of a long running project near the Boudnath stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal, providing shelter, medical care, food, and education to homeless street children.

After almost a month here, I should be back! The hospitality, humility, and compassion of the people at this guesthouse are completely unparalleled. It starts to feel like home 🏡

We ended up here because of a delay to Lukla, and I wish I’d taken photos. The junior suite was fantastic, with clean beds, rooms, and bathrooms. The staff were lovely, nice, and very professional. Prices were more than reasonable for the quality. Exceptional!

The manager was very rude and inhospitable. He shouted at me and lied about which room I’d booked. As a solo female traveller, I felt intimidated and cancelled the booking. The receptionist, who was also male, tried to sort things out nicely, but the manager shouted at him too. In response to the manager’s comments, I didn’t ask for a discount. I said I would pay for a standard room, not a deluxe one, since that was what they had available. That seemed fair and reasonable. I didn’t want the hassle of cancelling and finding somewhere else, but the manager’s attitude made me feel unsafe at the hotel.
