The old building’s thick walls keep it cool and block outside noise, and the garden is lovely and quiet. I came for one night and ended up staying for a second month. It’s listed as a 3-star hotel, though it feels better than most 4-star places. Saroj, the manager, and his family are kind and helpful, as are the professional staff. The four restaurants nearby are among the best in Kathmandu. There’s also a very luxurious farmers’ market here every Saturday.

The breakfast was a lovely start to the day, served from 7:30 AM in the café next to the building. There were egg plates and fruit bowls, with juice, tea, or coffee. I spent 10 days in the cozy Stone Room, a standard double that was spotless, quiet, comfortable, and cleaned daily. I did miss having a refrigerator in the room. The two-story museum building sits within a luxury complex with 24-hour security, shops, restaurants, a café, and a beautiful greenhouse. It’s on a charming dead-end street away from Kathmandu’s bustle, but only about a 10-minute drive from Thamel. I’d recommend it for a great stay.

I stayed four days and had no trouble at all. The place is gated, with guards keeping watch around the clock, so it felt secure for me as a solo woman traveler. It’s close to everything, but vehicle and street noise didn’t disturb me. The rooms each have their own character and a Nepali traditional touch. There’s a café, restaurant, and shops right beside the property, plus a farmers’ market on Saturdays. I’ll definitely come back. After I left a bag strap behind, they mailed it to me without charging anything, even though I offered to pay, and included a bouquet.

A peaceful little retreat away from Kathmandu’s loudest areas. The rooms are nicely put together, the bathrooms sparkle, and the staff are warm and helpful.

The small café has a limited breakfast selection, but Le Sherpa on site offers lots of food and brunch options. I arrived in KTM in the rain after booking somewhere else, but nobody opened that place’s gate, so we were left waiting outside for 40 minutes. I booked the Museum for the next day, and our taxi driver Krishna brought us over. He spoke with the night guard, who opened the gate, then called Prakash, the Museum manager. Prakash arranged keys for a suite, and I was settled in at 1:30am despite not having a booking for that night. The hotel kindly let me stay. In the morning I met Prakash and Saroj, the hotel managers, paid for two nights, and thanked them for upgrading my room.
