Heranya La:Ku

The hostel was a really uncomfortable, depressing place, and I left after four nights even though I’d booked and paid for seven. It’s in a dingy building in a nearby back courtyard, not actually joined to the hotel on the plaza. The room mattress was so uncomfortable that I slept on the floor the first night. I was put in a hobbit twin room, and the whole place seemed built for smaller hobbits. I kept hitting my head on things. One window had no insulation and was where pigeons came to defecate; the other faced a courtyard with an untrained, screaming dog. The toilets had no sink, and there was no sink on the floor to wash your hands after using them. In my 125+ countries of travel, I’ve never seen that before. It’s disgusting to have nowhere to wash your hands. They did provide toilet paper, and the bathroom facilities were new, but the gas shower leaked gas while running, which is extremely dangerous to inhale. Staff were friendly, and card payments were accepted with an extra 1.5% fee. The WiFi was good. This wasn’t the worst place I’ve stayed, but it was certainly the most depressing and uncomfortable.

The owner took time to give me a fascinating private tour through hidden spots in the neighbourhood, sharing stories about his family history and how people live there. The hotel itself is beautiful, with comfortable rooms and a great view over Durbar square. The restaurant is good, and the staff are very kind. I definitely recommend it.

I stayed one day with a friend, and the atmosphere was nice. The staff were really nice, too. It feels like Oyo, with full privacy, so you can come with your girlfriend without any problem. They provide breakfast, lunch and dinner, but you have to pay for the meals.

The view from the hotel is amazing, and there’s a rooftop restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The room has a heater and hot shower. It’s right in front of Patan Durbar Square, and there’s a taxi station nearby, which makes getting to the airport or other parts of Kathmandu convenient. Highly recommended.
