Hotel Mamata

The border is very close, and nights here were wonderfully quiet, with palm trees in the view. The staff were kind, asked whether I needed food, and let me keep a few things in the fridge. My bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean. When I asked for a fresh one, they brought it right away. Soap, shampoo, and a towel are available on request; I only used the towel. Wi-Fi handled messages and email, but wasn’t strong enough for the video calls I needed to make. I’m really grateful for the night I stayed and would strongly recommend it for a one-night stop.

The location is near the international border and bus stop. My night there was miserable: I bought a new bedsheet just outside the hotel and used it. The attached bathrooms were unclean, with no soap or shampoo, and the AC, fans, and lights didn’t do what they were supposed to. There was a free Wi-Fi router on each floor, but they seemed to be there for show, so I had to buy data to write this. The rooms have AC, fans, and lots of decorative lights, but the service was unresponsive and unhelpful, with no hospitality.

The food is good, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. People shouted and fought all night, so I couldn’t sleep for more than two or three hours. I told management, but got no response. They should call it mamata FISH MARKET, not a hotel. I’d rate it minus five.

The food was mouth-watering, and both the owner and staff were friendly and helpful. A good hotel at the Sunauli border.
