The Hotel Mountain

The food was decent, though I had expected more, and it’s worth negotiating the room price. The lobby and hall were great, and the staff were supportive. Hot and cold water were both available. We came here on a visit to Pathivara temple after a local recommendation, and found it a good place to stay in Taplejung.

Fresh mountain air and birdsong in the morning made a lovely change from city noise. The rooms were cozy, spotless, and designed to feel homely while keeping a rustic charm. Meals were another highlight, fresh and hearty, made with local ingredients and tasting authentic to the region. Set in a peaceful rural spot, the hotel pairs natural beauty with warm hospitality. The surrounding mountains were breathtaking, from misty sunrise views to evenings beneath a sky full of stars. It was an unforgettable stay.

We stayed here during our 2025 Great Himalaya Trail crossing of Nepal. The rooms were large, with attached bathrooms, and clean. Electricity and Wi-Fi were available. The food was basic.

There’s plenty of parking on the premises, and the restaurant serves nutritious, tasty food. The rooms are good for a stopover on the way to Pathibhara Temple, though the bathroom and toilet are basic. Hot water runs, but the fixtures don’t let you mix it with cold, so using a bucket is the only option.
