Abstract Hotel

The decor is beautiful, and the soundproofing was so good that we couldn't hear anything despite being right in the city. The lounge and gallery made a lovely place to have visitors, and food places are just a minute away. Staff were lovely and helpful, and towels were fresh, with daily cleaning available if you wanted it. The rooms get very warm in midsummer, and there's no cool air conditioning. The plug-in fan did help. If you're cooking, bring salt and pepper, or ask for pots, pans and utensils, since there's very little supplied and they don't provide sharp knives. A double plug in the bedroom would help if you need to run the cooler and charge your phone. I'd stay again for the convenience to the places I needed to go.

They moved me from the little lux studio I booked to a bigger room, which made it great value. The rooms were very clean, the staff friendly and funny, and the location was excellent. I'd recommend it for a couple or solo traveller, though maybe not families. The gym is small but does the job. The spa, sauna and restaurant are separate, so you pay extra to use them. I tried the pasta, which is a must, and the sauna and jacuzzi were really relaxing. Very happy with the hotel.

The restaurant dessert was good, and the waitress was really nice. I hadn't caught her name, but after we'd had a very bad day, she made the evening better. The staff were friendly overall. Our first room was far too hot, so staff moved us and brought another fan. The new room only had a bed and couch, and the bed was extremely hard, maybe harder than the floor. The walls were deep navy and the lighting wasn't great. I might try the hotel again, but it's not very likely.

We booked the day before for a fun night in the city after dinner on K Road. It's a busy hotel in a great spot, with a well-organised front desk, and finding our room was easy. The interior is cool, edgy and dark, with an almost old-world feel. It was fun, though not cheap, and definitely 4 star. On a very warm Auckland evening, the Aircon was a real letdown. Our room felt like a sauna.
