Nesuto St Martins Apartment Hotel

I was wary after reading the reviews, since we’d booked before seeing them, but the room was spotless and had no smell. There were no marks on the walls or unpleasant carpet, and it was a great room for the price. Check-in was quick and smooth, and checking out early was just as easy. My partner and I had booked three days and two nights, but stayed only two days and one night. Thank you, NESUTO!

The room itself looked dirty and old. There were fingerprints and scuff marks on the walls, and the carpet and couch seemed dirty too. Service was average, and the location was terrible. Getting into the car park was horrifying, spaces were limited, and you had to book the day before and pay another $30. Booking.com should make the $250 bond clear before check-in. It’s refundable, but it was nearly twice what we paid for the stay, which was meant to be cheap. I’m definitely not coming back and would strongly recommend against this place.

The staff were friendly and did their best to sort things out, but an apartment shouldn’t be missing basic amenities or poorly maintained. Our first night was awful: the bedroom hadn’t been cleaned properly, the air conditioning was broken, and the fan they suggested using didn’t work either. The bed was so uncomfortable that we considered leaving. They moved us to a much more comfortable apartment the next day. But the dryer had been removed and not replaced, so during our week-long family stay we had to make several trips up and down 17 floors to use a shared dryer. I wouldn’t stay here again on a future visit to Auckland.

The rooms got quite stuffy in the evenings because there was no air conditioning. The windows and sliding doors also had no flyscreens, so leaving them open wasn’t really an option. We stayed three nights and had a fine time. It’s a very basic place, though it has most of what you might need. The location was good for reaching things in the city, but being on a hill made the walks back a bit tough.
