Parklane Motor Lodge

nga mihi to the Parklane Motor Lodge manager and staff. I was in town from Napier for a hospital visit, and medical assistance had paid my fare but not my accommodation. I was panicking, but the manager helped me call them to work out what to do. He calmed me down and gave me a room, saying he wouldn’t put me out on the street. The next morning I called the people responsible and explained their mistake. They immediately emailed the motel to confirm payment. I’ve worked in hospitality for 20 years, and I know not many managers would do that. Thank you for treating me with such kindness and empathy. My room was lovely and clean too, and I absolutely loved having an oven in it.

The office wasn’t open, so we couldn’t get in touch with anyone until our second last day. The woman there, who wasn’t the manager, was lovely and tried to help. When I eventually spoke to the manager, he seemed not to care, though we did get some dishwashing liquid. We’d asked for some earlier because there was none, but the requests were ignored. Our room wasn’t serviced for three days, the floors were filthy, and a sharp knife in the drawer had a broken handle that made it dangerous to use. This was our second stay, and it felt like staying in a hovel. We’ll never return and wouldn’t recommend it.

The decor feels dated, but the beds were good and the shower was great. It was comfortable and quiet, in a great location, and the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. You get what you pay for.

The pool was lovely, and the motel is an easy walk from the hospital and supermarket. The staff were so friendly, and it felt like a home away from home while my partner was at Greenlane hospital. We’ll be back regularly for follow-up treatment. Thanks to the lovely motel manager. The price was reasonable for Auckland.
