We booked a sea-view room with a balcony for our first few days in New Zealand, as a birthday trip for my boyfriend’s 30th. We paid £230, which is NZ$529.60, through booking.com. Instead we were put at the back end of the house, with a view of the neighbours and no balcony. The host was strict, and it felt like living with a strict family member. Whenever we came downstairs, the host would appear, day or night. Breakfast was provided, and extra things like muffins and pancakes were made and left on the side, but we had no privacy and felt like we were walking on eggshells the whole time. We spent most of our time away from the property. I’d rather pay double for a relaxed stay somewhere else and wouldn’t book again. I couldn’t review it on Booking.com, even though that’s where we stayed two weeks ago. Looking back, we should have raised these issues while we were there, but after 40 hours of travel we had no energy to fight and were worried we’d end up with nowhere to stay. As the images show, I did book through booking.com and paid for a balcony room with sea view. They’re trying to make us look like liars, and lying themselves to avoid bad publicity.

I’m really disappointed. After a three-hour trip, I arrived with an email confirming my booking, only to be told there were no rooms and my reservation had been cancelled without notice. Staff said they don’t check emails or the booking website. That’s completely unprofessional, and I’d advise others to be cautious about booking here.

The bed was clean and comfortable, but I wouldn’t recommend the place because the room didn’t match what was advertised. I’d booked one with a sea view and balcony, but got neither. It also said I’d have a private bathroom, though I had to share it with other occupants.

Shireen made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived, and her hospitality made our first B&B stay such a lovely one. The place was beautifully decorated and the cleanest we’ve stayed in. We had no complaints and will definitely come back. Thank you, Shireen.

We really appreciated the privacy, and the house felt like our own while we were there. The location was nice, and I can see it being especially good in summer. Shareen was warm when we arrived, and it was a pleasure getting to know her. Even with renovations happening, the thoughtful interior felt homely. Our first Airbnb stay turned out to be a lovely experience, and the potato pancakes were yummy 😋
