Heather and Peter hosted a High Tea at Tea in A Secret Garden here in Blenheim for us last weekend, and it was such a lovely afternoon. If you haven’t tried one of their high teas, you’re missing out. The garden is gorgeous, and Heather’s baking is incredible. They put so much care into everything, from the beautifully laid tables to giving each guest a different tea cup and saucer. Our group of 10 was a perfect size, though they can cater for more or fewer. Nothing’s a problem for Heather and Peter, they’re perfect hosts. Bring your own bubbles, wine, or other drinks if you like. Peter knows so much about tea and shared some of its history as he freshly prepared a cup or two for our party. The food was deliciously exquisite: cucumber sandwiches, chocolate eclairs, scones with jam and cream, apple, lemon, and savoury tarts, chocolate cake, and Heather’s pastry swans. After we’d eaten, Heather and Peter showed us around their expansive gardens because it was too cold to have tea outdoors that day. The afternoon was lovely. Their heritage home is charming, and the homemade food was delicious and generous. Heather knew a lot about tea and helped us choose several kinds to try. You can also buy their tea online from the White Wabbit website. Peter kept us entertained with interesting stories and anecdotes.

The Shabby Shack is a cozy little place tucked into Heather and Peter’s garden. My wife and I slept comfortably in the loft bed, and had a hot shower and a compost toilet. We’d definitely stay here again if we’re in the area.
