Ashleigh Court Motel-Christchurch Hagley Park

I was expecting a decent-sized room, but the studio I was given was tiny, with nowhere to put a suitcase without it getting in the way. The kitchenette microwave was above the head height of a 5 ft 2 in adult, which made it awkward to use. The bathroom window was left fully open, and I couldn't reach it to close it during the cold snap and rain. Neither side of the electric blanket worked, the twin socket behind the bed was dead, and the bed felt damp. I had leg cramps and couldn't sleep. I'm very disappointed. My usual Christchurch motel was unavailable that weekend, and its two-bed unit costs well below what felt like a rip-off here. I can't recommend this place.

Lulu sorted things out without any stress after a Booking.com mix-up and our very early arrival. The place was clean, comfortable, and roomy, and it was easy to run to Hagley Park or explore Christchurch from there. Our stay was better than expected. I'd recommend it to families or dog owners.

The owners were really helpful and accommodating, and the king bed was very comfortable. The place isn't flash, but it was tidy and spacious. It's close to everything we needed while tucked away from noisy Riccarton Road. We could hear loud neighbors through the wall, though that could happen anywhere.

The bathroom had exposed nails, and one caught my shirt. That's a real hazard, especially for kids at that height. The old mini fridge we didn't even use was leaking and noisy, with wet carpet around it. We arrived late, around 8 pm, exhausted after a long drive, so we let that go for the night. Then the springy bed left our backs sore and made sleep impossible. We checked out first thing in the morning. We only needed a one-night stop before heading out, and the location was decent, but it turned into a very uncomfortable night.
