We arrived tired after riding around NZ on a pretty decent motorbike trip and camping in all sorts of places. It was very reasonably priced, with different options, and close enough to town to be convenient. The pub adjoining the place was a great spot for meals and drinks, with a resident discount. It also had all the facilities we needed, and there was plenty of interesting activity with people coming and going.

Bealey Quarter was clean, modern, and comfortable. The rooms and bathrooms were tidy, and the kitchen was good, though two fridges for the whole building isn’t enough. Jason from Vietnam at reception did a great job. He was very friendly and professional. I enjoyed staying here and would book again.

The price is cheap, but I wouldn’t recommend staying for long. The kitchen is too small, and it was dirty most of the time because guests seemed to expect it to clean itself. There’s no ventilation at all, not even one window, so it gets hot and stuffy. The smell of fried meat and fish is everywhere, at all hours. The receptionists are very helpful, though.

The room was closet-sized, cramped, and claustrophobic, with barely enough room to move or relax. It felt completely overpriced. Noise made it impossible to rest too. I could hear loud voices, banging, and people moving around in neighbouring rooms, while the nearby bar stayed noisy late into the night. There was no soundproofing, and the whole place felt chaotic and stressful. Then I looked under the bed and found what appeared to be a used syringe. That made me question the cleanliness, safety, and basic standards of the place. I asked for a refund immediately. Staff said the manager, Carrick, “wasn’t in” and they “couldn’t help me.” They showed no concern or accountability and just told me to come back another time. That wasn’t possible because I was in town for a business conference. I left and booked another motel on Bealey Ave, where I had a much better experience. Since then, the bealey quarter has ignored my emails and returned none of my calls about this. It needs serious improvements to cleanliness, room quality, noise control, and customer service. I strongly recommend staying elsewhere.

The staff were excellent, very professional, polite, friendly, and helpful. They would have changed our room, but the place was fully booked because of the Ed Sheeran concert. We thought we’d booked the kind of room shown in the video, with a motel or hotel feel, and expected to watch tennis on Sky TV. Instead we were put in "The Lodge", which felt like hostel or backpacker accommodation and had no Sky TV. At $189:00, it wasn’t what we expected, and it put a damper on our overnight stay in Christchurch. We’ll be more careful next time.
