Dyers House

Barry and Angela were incredibly kind when we arrived close to 6pm with almost no notice. An event had filled up most accommodation in Christchurch, and they still managed to get a room ready for us. Thank you both for that. Parking can be awkward because the driveway is single, so guests may have to shuffle cars around to get out. The rooms are spacious, with high-quality bedding and pillows, and the bathroom feels like one in a 5-star hotel. The location is nice and the owners are lovely, but the price is hard to justify. At the time I’m writing, a 5-star place like the Sudima is about $230, compared with $395 here, and the Sudima has more amenities. That’s why I found it very overpriced and tough to recommend. I was going to give it 3 stars, but Eric the cat was such a delight that I added one for him!

Ange and Maz were warm and welcoming, but the listing didn’t mention that there was a cat at the property. My wife is allergic and broke out in hives after we checked in. Since it was our honeymoon, having to rearrange things caused complications. We asked Ange and Max to consider a refund given the circumstances, but they declined. Disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend this place if you have allergies.

I slept incredibly well in the beautifully furnished rooms, and the house itself is stunning. Barry and Angela made us feel very welcome. There’s nothing I could fault about my stay. Thank you.

The rooms were wonderfully comfortable, breakfast was great, and the service was the kind hotels should envy. Thanks, Baz & Ange. We can’t wait to come back. You gave us a 6 star experience.
