Salerno Motel Apartments

The location is great and really close to the CBD. My room was super cozy and had all the amenities I needed, and the owner was incredibly nice and helpful. I had a fantastic stay and highly recommend it!

After 15 days travelling around New Zealand and staying somewhere different nearly every night, we were welcomed by a smiling, happy person who couldn't have been more accommodating. The double room cost less than a one-room option at other accommodation.

The hosts are very friendly, and Connie has a great sense of humour. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the location is about a five-minute drive or 15-minute walk from the city. If you're staying in Christchurch, put Salerno apartments at the top of your list. Highly recommended.

Dear Connie, Thank you for your feedback about our stay at your property on Saturday 8th November 2025. We want to respond to your concerns about the toilet seat, our parking, and the compendium you said was stolen but later turned up. We didn't use the toilet before leaving for our evening out, so we couldn't report any damage then. We saw the seat was slightly crooked but didn't inspect it, assuming it might just be loose. If we'd caused the damage, we would have told you at checkout and apologised. We'd have been happy to pay if it was our fault. Hotels and motels usually provide one parking space per room, but your marked spaces are very small. The spaces left when we checked in would have blocked other guests if we'd parked there. You kindly suggested the unmarked spot in front of the garage. We asked after parking if that was okay, and you agreed. We thought you were fine with my poor parking skills, so we were surprised when you called hours later, asking us to return from our evening in town to move the car. We were shocked to get a call within an hour of leaving, accusing us of taking the black folder, which most hotels and motels call a compendium. We have no idea why anyone would take it, though perhaps someone might as a keepsake from a fantastic stay. Later, you texted to “kind of” apologise after it was found down the side of the bed. A few points of feedback for you as well. You seem like a happy, lovely person, but a 25-minute check-in, including a 10-minute explanation in the room of how to turn on the spa bath, felt excessive. I've been a sales representative for 25 years and stayed in hundreds of hotels and motels, and never had such a detailed lesson on filling and switching on a bath. You also told us at length about a woman who had a loud argument with her partner and left in the night, accidentally taking the room key. You said you charged her $50 until it was returned. I'm sure she'd be pleased to hear you recounting your victory over her. There was quite a bit of rotten wood where water damage was obvious. Perhaps you charged a motel guest for it, but you may want to repair it because it's very noticeable. The freezer in the unit was so iced up that guests couldn't make ice for drinks, so it may need defrosting now and then. We saw that you charged us $102.20 for the toilet seat, which we had no idea was broken. To be fair, that's a small price for the hours of entertainment we'll get retelling the story to friends, family, and anyone who'll laugh about it. Think Toilet/Compendium Gate.
