This was our second visit, and we had an even better time than before. Everything we needed was there, and we were left to ourselves, which suits us. At the same time, we knew help was there if we asked. Tony and Sofie work hard at this busy motel and do a great job keeping the rooms clean and fresh, with just the right amount of casual friendliness. That fits the community, and Sumner is fabulous.

We stayed at Sumner Bay Motel for a night while we were in Sumner for a mate’s birthday party, and we’ll definitely return next time we need a place there. Our one-bedroom apartment had a balcony surrounded by palm trees and felt private. It was very clean and tidy, and nice and quiet for a good night’s sleep. There was plenty of parking right outside, and check-in was easy, with no hassles. The shops are right nearby, and the beach is just one block away. Tony and Sophie were wonderful hosts and went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. Everything was perfect, and I’d absolutely recommend it.

Sophie and Antony were amazing when I turned up without a room because I’d made a mistake with our booking. They managed to find us somewhere for our first night in New Zealand, and we returned to Sumner Bay Motel for night two. Its location right in the middle of Sumner Bay is spectacular, and it’s a gorgeous spot just a short distance from Christchurch. A perfect start to our New Zealand holiday.

Tony and Sophie were such friendly, accommodating owners and made our stay a highlight of the trip. They’re true ambassadors for the sumner bay area. Book direct for great rates and to avoid missing out. We’ll be back!

A real gem. The rooms are good, there’s free laundry, and Tony and Sophie couldn’t have been more helpful. Sumner’s a great location, with everything you need and an easy bus ride into central ChCh. Do yourself a favour and stay here. Independent motels like this are worth supporting, and the experience is so much better than any chain. The photo is from a walk to nearby Taylors Mistake.
