After a long drive, this affordable place had everything I needed. It’s quiet and cosy, the owners are lovely, and the rooms and bathrooms are tidy and well kept. It’s the cleanest and cheapest hotel I’ve stayed in in New Zealand. Breakfast is included in the price and was fantastic. Highly recommend!

I could’ve spent hours looking at all the interesting furniture and art around this charming house. The owners were so sweet, and we really enjoyed meeting them. It was quiet on the street and we slept well; my bed was super comfortable and cosy. The ocean is an easy walk away. I wish we’d stayed longer, and I’ll definitely come back if I’m ever in Christchurch.

The owners and managers are kind and accommodating, and the house has a real history to it. There are paintings in every room, all in a vintage style. Breakfast in the morning is super cute and took me back to staying at my grandparents’ as a kid. This is definitely a place to stay!

Pier Lodge gave us a lovely base for exploring the area. It used to be a convent, with high ceilings and large rooms. Ours was comfortable and had an en suite bathroom with a shower. We were well looked after and got recommendations for places to visit. The dining room was lovely, and breakfast was provided in the morning. In the evening, we relaxed in the gardens and ate dinner we’d prepared in the shared kitchen.

Nice hosts, beautiful artwork, and a lovely dining area. The room was lovely too, with a good shower, though the sink was the smallest ever, like in so many places in NZ.
