Lake Dunstan Motel

The owners were full of helpful local suggestions, and we had a good chat about coffee culture in NZ. They roast their own beans in the garage, and we got to try a lovely homemade brew. In their small office they have a La Marzocco Micra and a Malkonich grinder, just for making proper espresso for themselves, not as a cafe. That was a fun surprise. This is a small family business beside a green area and the golf course, with lots of restaurants nearby. The buildings are a bit old, but the rooms feel welcoming and comfortable. It's an honest, old-fashioned motel focused on what matters. The kitchen is compact but handy and has everything you need, while the bedroom and bathroom are very spacious and the beds are very good. Everything was VERY clean. I rarely feel so little need to wash things in the kitchen before using them. We clearly recommend giving this little place a try if you need a motel in the area.

The owners had helpful suggestions for places to visit, and the motel is conveniently placed within walking distance of the shops. We had a lovely, quiet stay in a pleasant, very clean room. It's an older-style motel, but well looked after. The kitchenette had everything set up well, the bed was comfortable, and there was plenty of hot water in the shower. I'd definitely stay here again.

The hosts were super friendly and always ready to help or offer advice. Restaurants and shops are an easy walk away, as is the lake if you fancy a stroll. We had a quiet, relaxed stay in a spacious room with a great view over the golf course. The property is older, but well maintained.

We liked it so much that we added an extra night, making it five nights altogether, and would've happily stayed five more. The hosts were welcoming and friendly, and the clean units are well maintained. It's close to town and a handy base for visiting the surrounding towns. The Whittakers chocolate on arrival was a lovely touch. Thank you 😊
