We really enjoyed being somewhere peaceful, away from central Taupō, while still just a 7-minute drive from downtown when we wanted to explore. The hosts were welcoming, attentive, and genuinely lovely to talk with, which made the stay feel personal. Our room was spotless and extremely spacious, with thoughtful touches and everything we needed. The view was amazing, the sort you keep stopping to admire. The whole place felt tranquil and made it easy to unwind. Breakfast was fabulous each morning: a generous continental buffet as well as a delicious cooked option. It felt like a home from home from the minute we arrived, and we’d happily return.

We had a fantastic room with a wonderful view, and breakfast was as exceptional as the hospitality. Karen and Rob gave us helpful tips and we had lovely conversations with them. We spent 5 days at the unique flying Trout Lodge. Thanks for everything! Nina + André

We came back for another night and chose it for my wife’s birthday, after staying here before. From arrival, the lovely lodge styling, surroundings, and the superb hospitality from brother and sister owners Rob and Karen made it feel luxurious again. Our room was up high, with excellent views from its private deck. The bathroom was enormous, about as spacious as my childhood home, and there was even a separate luggage room. Breakfast in the well-appointed dining room was excellent. Between that, the complimentary wine and beer, and bowls of chocolates laid out as treats, it’s easy to put on weight here. Those small details give the Flying Trout a five-star luxury feeling. It’s a place to enjoy celebrity living. Sadly, we only had one night this time. Highly recommend.

Karen and Rob made our final stop of the vacation the most memorable one. The suite was beautiful, breakfast was great, and we loved the selection of single malts. Thank you for such wonderful hospitality. Cannot recommend you enough 👍🏻

We made good use of the billiard room, and also enjoyed the spa on our front deck. Breakfast was generous and delicious, especially Karen's scrambled eggs. Our Kiwi Suite was beautifully appointed and so comfortable, with amazing views and little treats we happily gobbled up. Rob and Karen, along with Bessie, made us feel welcome and relaxed as soon as we arrived. This is such an amazing, beautiful place. Highly recommended, and we’ll certainly be back. Thank you, Karen & Rob.
