Gunyah Country Estate

A great way to experience a rural homestead, with a lovely hostess and wonderful fine dining to finish the day. Such a nice escape into country life.

We had a great one-night stay in an impressive old house, with lovely food, a pleasant atmosphere, and wonderful hosts. The bathrooms are a little dated. It didn’t bother us, though some guests might expect more up-to-date facilities.

The cottage was nice and quiet, with a fireplace to make it cosy and a good view of the sunrise. But when we arrived, there were lots of dead flies and mouse droppings on the kitchenware. The owner brushed off our concern with “it’s life on the countryside.” I live in the countryside too, and keep food and kitchenware in closed cupboards, so that felt like a simple thing to handle. The service was poor, and it cost too much for what we got, although the cottage itself was nice. The bed was rather small for two, and the mattress wasn’t very comfortable. Edit: that was a very long reply. If you’d just come to have a wee look instead, that would’ve been a good start!

The “stables” unit we stayed in left nothing to be desired. Gunyah estate was a wonderful surprise, with beautiful gardens, all kinds of trees and plants, orchards, lawns, and a raised croquet lawn that was my favourite. The manor house from the 1800’s keeps all its charm. You have to see the exquisite furnishings in the sitting and dining rooms. Many thanks, Martin and Ethel, Brisbane AUSTRALIA.
